Governors

Welcome to the Governors' Page

The Governing Body of Grace Mary Primary School consists of 5 parent Governors; 3 Local Authority Governors; 3 staff Governors (two teaching, one non teaching) and 3 Community Governors. The main aim of the Governing Body is to ensure that each and every child as the opportunity to reach their full potential within the financial constraints imposed upon the school.

The current group of Governors are a diverse group of people (made up of men and women) with different skills and experiences. Their experience of Governance ranges from new Governors who have only joined the Governing Body since Sept 06, to Governors who have 12 years + experience.

All Governors enjoy supporting the school, staff and pupils, and are looking forward to becoming more proactive over the forthcoming months and building better and stronger relationships with the staff and school. In order to achieve this we have nominated Governors for all subject areas and from September 06 we will have Year Group Governors. (Hopefully this will allow Governors to get to know the staff and children and more importantly for the staff to get to know the Governors). We also have various sub committees (Finance, Curriculum, Staffing and Health & Safety) which meet on a regular basis to discuss the various issues that arise within school. All minutes from these meetings plus the Full Governing Body Meetings will appear on the website once they have been ratified. (Updated on a termly basis).

It is a challenging time to be a Governor with lots of new initiatives taking place and all Governor relish these challenges, and look forward to having the opportunity of working along side the Staff to make Grace Mary a safer, healthier and a more enjoyable place to learn.

Should you wish to contact a Governor on any matter, then contact should be made via the School Office. Representatives of the Governing Body will be in school on Parent Evenings should you wish to talk to us.

Governor Day

A first! In November Governors came into school for the day to work with staff and pupils. Read their final report.

Firstly, all Governors wish to express their appreciation and gratitude to all staff for making us feel welcome, and for making the day an enjoyable experience.

Governors all stated aspects of the day they enjoyed. Moreover, everyone agreed and were totally impressed by the behaviour and politeness of the pupils of Grace Mary in particular.

Everybody gained something from the experience and had a better understanding of the classroom environment.

Governors made the following comments:

'Never realised how many children have special needs.'

'Children were well behaved and polite.'

'Children asked lots of interesting questions.'

'Children accepted our presence in the classroom.'

'School Council members were exceptional, especially as they were not aware they were meeting Governors!'

For a first event, everyone agrees that it has been a great success and we look forward to the next one in February 2008.

Parent Governors
As parents will know we have four splendid candidates, two of whom will be elected on Friday of this week following the count of ballot papers. We wish all candidates well and will update stakeholders in due course.

New Parent Governors

Following voting, I am delighted to inform you that our new parent governors are Mr Powell and Mrs Francis. During the course of this term they will be inducted into the Governing Body and we wish them successful terms of office with us.

A huge thank you must also go to the other parents who put themselves forward as candidates. It was a very close contest and we would like to thank all appointed and proposed candidates for their hard work and commitment to the school.
